An Alfred custom search for books in the WorldCat database

While I was writing my previous post, Zotero for reference management, I created an Alfred1 custom search2 to make locating books in the WorldCat library easier and quicker.

Here’s what the Alfred URL looks like:

alfred://customsearch/Search%20WorldCat%20for%20%E2%80%98%7Bquery%7D%E2%80%99/wcat/utf8/noplus/http://www.worldcat.org/search?qt=worldcat_org_bks&q={query}&fq=dt%3Abks

If you’re already an Alfred user, click the link below to install:

Install WorldCat custom search

To use the WorldCat custom search, launch Alfred, then type the keyword ‘wcat’ followed by the title of a book.

    1. Alfred is the single best productivity tool I have installed on my Mac. It’s free, but the £34 Powerpack upgrade provides some very useful additional functionality. Or become a mega supporter with lifetime upgrades for £59.
    2. The Alfred site has a useful list of custom searches you can download and tips on how to make your own custom searches.
